Feb. 18-19 - Pensacola’s 450th Anniversary Pensacola is throwing one of the longest parties in history to celebrate having the longest history in North America. To commemorate its 450th anniversary, Pensacola is celebrating for 450 days from May 23, 2008 to August 15, 2009. King and Queen of Spain Visit Fort George In Pensacola, Fla. - The “Battle of Pensacola” was very important to the American cause in the Revolutionary War. When the British lost to the Spanish at Fort George, they lost Pensacola as a valuable port where it could have protected its interests along the Gulf Coast.
