Celebrate Pensacola Announces Book Signing for Historic Pensacola
On Thursday, December 11 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the T.T. Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum, 330 South Jefferson Street, Pensacola authors John J. Clune, Jr., associate professor and chair of history at the University of West Florida, and Margo S. Stringfield, an archaeologist and research associate with the University of West Florida Archaeology Institute, will sign copies of their newly released book, Historic Pensacola.
Clune and Stringfield use a wide range of historical and archaeological records, spiced with traditional period recipes, to provide a unique look into the daily lives of the people who endured hardship, disease, and hurricanes to settle the Gulf coast frontier. The result is a highly readable account of a city with a rich and fascinating past.
Historic Pensacola is published by the University Press of Florida, with the assistance of Celebrate Pensacola, Inc. "Celebrate Pensacola is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to commemorate and educate the public about the 450th anniversary of the Luna settlement expedition to Pensacola Bay in 1559," said Dr. Coy Irvin, co-chair of the organization.
"When our education subcommittee brought this book to us as a Celebrate Pensacola project, we jumped right on it. This book will be enjoyed by area residents and visitors for years to come and is exactly the kind of project we wanted to help bring to fruition," added Irvin.
Richard Brosnaham, who is director of the T. T. Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum and also serves as the education subcommittee chairman added "I have been anticipating the publication of this book, and I could think of no better place to have a community book signing than the Wentworth Museum where we celebrate our community’s long and diverse history."
Come join Celebrate Pensacola on December 11 at the T. T. Wentworth Museum from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. History enthusiasts can bring their own copy of the book to be signed and books will also be available for purchase at the museum.
