Education Initiatives
The educational component will play a vital role in teaching the history of our community to area children. Among the activities to be held may include the Escambia County History Fair, reenactments, virtual fieldtrips, archeological digs, an activity book and other opportunities which will incorporate historical lessons into the classrooms and museums in Northwest Florida.
Celebrate Pensacola, Inc. will work diligently to educate the citizenry of the unique heritage of this community. It allows the opportunity to teach the importance of commemorating this very special time in our community through an educational program dealing with the topic. By definition, a “commemoration” is an honorary occasion in memory of an event or a person. By teaching the various times we have in our nations’ calendar for current commemorations, such as Fourth of July or Memorial Day, we can also tell the story of Don Tristan de Luna and Spain’s involvement in the settlement of the United States and the importance of the role the Gulf Coast, especially Pensacola, played in this process.
The commemoration of Pensacola is to honor and showcase the people, culture and events that happened over the past 450 years that make Florida an important part of America’s history.
