SpringHill Suites by Marriott on Pensacola Beach won a first place international technology award for its geothermal system. The hotel installed underground pipes to use the earth's temperature to heat and cool the building. SpringHill Suites is also using compact fluorescent light bulbs and ozone-saving laundry equipment.
