Hailed as potentially the greatest trumpeter of all time Marsalis became the first jazz musician ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1997. His nine Grammy Awards, U.S. National Medal of Arts, and Louis Armstrong Memorial Medal barely touch his extensive list of accomplishments. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, with Marsalis as artistic director and trumpeter, spotlights 15 of the best soloists, ensemble players and arrangers in jazz. They bring a vast repertoire of masterpieces by legends of the genre, including John Coltrane, Best of Blue Note Records, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington, Kings of the Crescent City Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll, Sidney Bechet, King Oliver and more.
