The Pensacola Bay Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), a division of the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce, serves as the destination marketing organization for Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Key. Staff assists planners with meeting preparation and encourages business travelers and visitors alike to visit the city's historic, cultural and recreational sites. The bureau's strategic advertising and sales campaign serves to promote the area as a year-round destination for leisure and business travel, which in turn has a significant effect on the long-term development of the Pensacola Bay Area community. Through advertising placed and promotions initiated through the CVB, toll-free lines and the website invite callers to request a complimentary packet of information about the area. Inquiries are tracked to aid with planning future advertising and marketing strategies. The CVB was organized in 1982 as part of the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce. Located in Wayside Park, the bureau is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mon.-Fri.; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat.; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sun.

The Bill Hargreaves Fishing Rodeo started in 1971 with 18 anglers on Mothers Day. Bill Hargreaves started the rodeo as part of a Kiwanis program whose goal was to fight the war on drugs in this country. Bill was then in charge of childrens activities with the Kiwanis and thought that a fishing rodeo would be a good family event. The entry fee for the rodeo was 25 cents and in its first year made only $12.50. From these very humble beginnings, the Hargreaves Rodeo was on its way.

For the 24nd year, area Sertoma organizations are once again coordinating and hosting the largest Fireworks display on the Gulf Coast over Pensacola Bay. There will be activities throughout the day, from 11:00 am until 6:30 pm, in Seville Square to include a FREE Childrens Area with inflatables and pony rides, Arts and Crafts vendors, Food vendors, and live entertainment on the gazebo stage beginning at 11:00 am, with a Hot Dog Eating Contest at noon! Starting at 4:00, there will be live music on the Bayfront Stage, featuring regional bands. The festivities will culminate with the fireworks show over Pensacola Bay, synchronized with music broadcast on Cat Country FM 98.7.

The three-day, juried art show draws more than 200 of the nations best painters, potters, sculptors, jewelers, graphic artists, craftsmen and other artists. The Christmas Parade includes local bands from every high school in Escambia County, groups from around the region, and as far away as Houston and New Orleans. The Cox Pensacola Christmas Parade profits go to local high school band booster organizations to assist in the purchasing of uniforms and equipment and funding of travel expenses. Preceding the parade is the popular 1.2 miles Christmas Parade Dash, sponsored by the Pensacola Runners Association. With nearly 400 participants each year, the Dash uses the Cox Pensacola Christmas parade route just prior to the start of the parade. The race begins at 5:00 pm and is a maze through the downtown area lined with thousands of people cheering. The course ends at Plaza Ferdinand where a large candy cane is handed to each finisher. Throughout the evening the giant Pelican (14 feet tall, with a 20-foot wingspan) is perched above the celebration on a 100-foot platform at the intersection of Palafox and Government Streets. Although Palafox and Government Street will be closed to traffic, area restaurants will be open and additional vendors will be providing refreshments (no alcohol sales). Live performances on three outdoor stages provide ongoing entertainment throughout the evening. The popular kids' area will be expanded this year and will feature the special kids' countdown at 8 p.m. with confetti and the "bubble stomp." At the stroke of midnight, the whole city celebrates as the Pelican descends amidst fireworks and more confetti. The event has been a huge hit with over 50,000 revelers in attendance.
