Canoeing, Kayaking, Tubing & Ecotourism

Ecotourism may be a buzzword in the travel industry, but it’s certainly not a new concept in the Pensacola Bay Area where natural attractions have  helped preserve “Florida's Last Frontier" and been delighting nature lovers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts for decades.

Outdoor opportunities stretch from the 52 shimmering miles of protected beach to the rustic woodlands and creeks of the "Canoe Capital of Florida" in Milton. Pensacola is in the heart of the national seashore, which flanks the city with barrier islands—Perdido Key Beach (Spanish for "Lost Island") to the west and Pensacola Beach, to the east.

This site features an Interactive Trails Map which covers a variety of trails for hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking and horseback riding in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties like Adventures Unlimited and Blackwater Canoe Rental who offer lodging, camping, kyaking, tubing, and canoeing in nearby Milton. Shallow rivers offer safety for small children and sandbars make great sites for picnics. It's fun for the whole family!

Big Lagoon State Recreation Area offers a fabulous view from its 40-foot observation tower and ample opportunity to explore terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Pensacola had "ecotourism" before the word was even invented.
