Lunch is an integral part of the day. Ok fine, you caught me. Lunch is an integral part of MY day. So as you can imagine, I don’t like to waste my calories on food I don’t love; I want to enjoy every bite of it. Throw in some friends for amazing company, and now all of a sudden the workweek doesn’t seem so daunting.

Getting together with my girlfriends for a quick-and-easy lunch is one of my favorite ways to catch up with them and break up the workweek. We’re able to gab and chat while grabbing a bite to eat. Most of us live a bustling lifestyle and might not have much time for a long lunch break, so we plan accordingly on our location and time constraints.

Pensacola is home to such a diverse variety of excellent dining, it does not disappoint, even for those on the go. There are so many restaurants and flavors that my friends and I often have a hard time narrowing it down to just one. We are a pretty eclectic bunch and enjoy eccentric atmospheres and flavors. You can often catch us walking down Palafox Street for a meal or slipping into a side street for a lower key place.

City Grocery

City Grocery

Many of my friends live in the same neighborhood, so it is easy for us to choose a place to grab lunch on the weekend. We like to frequent City Grocery in East Hill. City Grocery offers a selection of cold beverages and bottles of wine. You’ll feel like you are at a picnic with their tables and mellow setting. Bourbon Street melt, the St. Charles, French Dip and Ultimate Grilled Cheese are some of my favorite sandwiches made fresh in the back of the shop while you wait and watch. You’ll find City Grocery by the the aroma of pork, ribs and brisket in the smoker out front as it drifts down the streets.

Hub Stacey's Food & Spirits

Working in downtown Pensacola, there are so many restaurants within walking distances of business offices. One that is worth the walk is Hub Stacey’s. You’ll often times hear us refer to it as just Hubs. While we wait on one another to arrive, one of us will always order their homemade hummus and pita bread. It’s a true sandwich shop with indoor and outdoor seating. I will 100 percent always order the Twelfth Avenue. Without a doubt my favorite sandwich of tuna salad served on a lightly grilled sourdough bread and topped with melted cheddar cheese. Quite literally a melt-in-your-mouth sandwich.

New Yorker Deli & Pizzeria

Though Pensacola doesn’t feel like New York, we do have the New Yorker Deli and Pizzeria. There is absolutely something for everyone here, and with our picky gang, there are never any complaints. Known for its pizza and calzones, New Yorker Deli offers a plethora of chicken salads, pasta salads and specialty meat sandwich options. I get jealous when I see other people’s plates. Recently I had the fresh strawberry and grilled chicken salad with chevre cheese and yogurt poppy seed dressing and there was not a drop left, it was that scrumptious.

Five Sisters Blues Cafe

Five Sisters

If we are feeling the need for comfort food during lunch, we know the perfect place - Five Sisters Blues Café. The jazzy, heart-and-soul atmosphere is exactly what we love about this hidden corner restaurant. We usually share an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. Then to each her own for the southern comfort cuisine – southern fried chicken, pot roast and red beans and rice. The portions are HUGE, so bring your appetite and you’ll still leave with a box to go.

Hop on into one of my favorite spots to grab lunch with the ladies. You won’t regret these hot spots and their menu options.
