Art, music and theatre students from the University of West Florida will present artistic works in a culmination to the 2017 Irish Experience program. Participants from the Department of Art will present the Irish Experience Exhibition Sept. 15 through Oct. 7. The Department of Music will present a program of Irish Folk music, Art Songs and the music of Ricky Ian Gordon. The Department of Theatre will present two works, “Red Hanrahan”, a short story by W.B. Yeats, and “Lovers”, a one-act play by Brian Friel. The Music and Theatre performances will be presented in conjunction on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.

UWF’s Irish Experience program allows students to take their artistic talents abroad and focus on their individual fine art disciplines and areas of interest. During the 27-day program theatre and music students were given the opportunity to perform in such venues as the George Bernard Shaw Theatre and Carlow Cathedral in Carlow and the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. Art students were able to work alongside Irish artists Mary Cullen and Jacinta Crowley and were granted special tours of Carlow County Museum and the permanent collection at Carlow College.

All events are free and open to the public. Due to limited seating, tickets are required for the Department of Music recital and the Department of Theatre productions. The Art Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Contact Nick Croghan, TAG UWF gallery director, at artgallery@uwf.edu or 850.474.2696 for additional details. All events will take place in the Center for Fine & Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus. For more information or to reserve tickets, please call the CFPA Box Office at 850.857.6285.
