In advance of the film’s Independent Lens broadcast premiere on PBS, a free screening of ALWAYS IN SEASON will be held 6pm Saturday, Feb. 22 at UWF, followed by a Q&A session with the director, Jacqueline Olive. The film centers on the case of Lennon Lacy, an African American teen who was found hanging from a swing set in Bladenboro, NC in 2014, and whose mother, Claudia, seeks answers for her son’s death that was quickly ruled a suicide, despite inconsistencies in the case. It takes an unflinching look at the multi-generational impact of lynching, connecting the racial violence that persists today to historic terrorism, and spotlights grassroots efforts in communities across the country to acknowledge the people victimized by lynching, heal lingering wounds, and bring about justice. This is a free event hosted by the UWF Kugelman Honors Program, UWF Office of Equity and Diversity, and WSRE. The film will air on WSRE 9pm Monday, Feb. 24.
