Faculty Recital: Leonid Yanovskiy, violin

The University of West Florida Department of Music will present Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy, professor and director of strings and orchestra in concert on Monday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in the Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus.

Dr. Yanovskiy will perform works by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms. Bolton Ellenberg will accompany on the piano.

Dr. Yanovskiy is an acclaimed violinist, violist and conductor who captivated audiences around the world with his luminous and energetic performances.

Throughout his career, he has performed on the stages of Lincoln Center, Chicago Orchestra, Boston Symphony Halls, the Kennedy Center and Metropolitan Opera. He has performed recitals throughout the world, including Brazil, Denmark, France, Israel, Korea and Russia. 

Before coming to UWF in 2000, Dr. Yanovskiy taught at the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music. He was principal violinist with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Northern Crown, Goliard Chamber Ensemble, and Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. He was also a violinist with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the American Symphony.

Dr. Yanovskiy received degrees from the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music in Russia, studied at the American Conservatoire at Fontenbleau in France, and earned a doctorate in musical arts from Rutgers University.
