From The Ground Up Garden is happy to welcome Mike Cotton and Dave Barnes for a showing of their film "Florida's Surfing History - The Panhandle."

Mike Cotton and Dave Barnes, national producers based in northwest Florida, spent the summer of 2012 filming interviews with many of the "old timers" and acquiring vintage film footage, photographs, news articles, and other historical content.

"It's not a surf movie. It's more about the lifestyle," says Cotton. "The Navy guys from California who brought the surfing craze to Pensacola post-World War II. Then it got the locals involved."

The film features footage of Pensacola surfing icon Yancy Spencer, a World Champion surfer who is honored with a statue depicting him carrying a surfboard at Pensacola Beach.

A sneak peek of "Back at China Beach" will be played before the hour-long film "Florida's Surf history - The Panhandle."
