The University of West Florida Department of Music presents the Perdido Brass in concert. The performance will take place on Monday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall, located in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus.

The program will feature works by American composers James Stephenson and Steven Sacco, Russian composer Victor Ewald and more.

James Stephenson’s “Fanfare for an Angel”, was written in tribute to trumpeter and teacher Jeanne Pocius, who was in Haiti during the devastating 2010 earthquake. Despite a broken arm, she spent the next 3 months in Haiti, first assisting in the aftermath of the quake, then restarting the music program she had been teaching when the quake hit.

Written for the American Brass Quintet, Steven Sacco’s contemporary pieces “Prelude Fantasy” and “Little Suite of Miniatures” will be performed, as well as one of the few brass quintet compositions from the time of Tchaikovsky, Victor Ewald’s “Brass Quintet No. 3”.

The Perdido Brass, led by trumpeter Dale Riegle, also includes trumpeter Jonathan Martin, horn player Stuart Kinney, trombonist Bret Barrow and bass trombonist Wess Hillman. The group was formed in the summer of 1988 and has been featured on the “Music at Christ Church” series, as part of the “Legacy Concert Series” at Trinity Presbyterian Church, as well as the “Lyceum Series” at Pensacola State College. The annual “Tidings of Comfort and Joy” concert features their collaboration with other top musicians in a widely acclaimed Christmas Concert. In addition, they have performed at Troy University, presenting a master class and concert. As Artist in Residence for the University of West Florida Department of Music, the Perdido Brass has performed annual recitals, and presents “Brass Day” for high school students each year. Each player is a member of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.

This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. For more information or to reserve tickets, please contact the CFPA Box Office at 850.857.6285.
