Mary Petty was the creator of the Peabody family featured on over 40 covers for The New Yorker Magazine. Petty was an illustrator of books and magazines and was known for her satirical depiction of New York City’s Victorian era society. Working in watercolor, Petty meticulously drew her characters and scenes using a limited palette of roses, blues, greens, browns, and gold.
This exhibition is organized by the Syracuse University Art Collection.
