In celebration of Florida’s upcoming 200th statehood anniversary, which happened right outside of Jackson’s, in Ferdinand Plaza, we have created a special food and wine event, The Pecan: America’s Native Nut. The five-course food and wine pairing will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Pecans are the only tree nut indigenous to North America, with a storied history among Native Americans and early settlers. The first U.S. Pecan plantings began in North America during the 1770’s, spreading all along the Atlantic Seaboard. By 1802, planting pecans in community gardens began spreading all along the American Gulf Coast. Over the years, they have become a staple for all.

Flash forward to the 21st century. The USA is the largest pecan-producing country in the world, generating 300 million pounds a year. Today, the Pecan is proud to be hailed as the only indigenous tree nut to North America.  The dinner will highlight Renfroe Pecan Company featuring a number of varieties within the menu. With this as the inspiration, Chef Miller, Chef de Cuisine Blade Herring and Sous Chef Conner Lukkar have collaborates and created a menu reflective of our history.
