The MESS Hall’s mission is to inspire curiosity, experimentation and creative problem solving through exploration of math, engineering, science and stuff (MESS). The MESS Hall is not a typical science museum. Rather than exhibits with planned outcomes, visitors get to work like real scientists, developing questions and creating experiments, engaging in complex reasoning and learning science just through tinkering. It’s all hands-on science. The Pensacola MESS Hall aspires to attract and create a community of critical and creative thinkers of all ages who are inspired by and understand the basic principles of science.

The second-floor observation corridor showcases a glass wall that overlooks the high bay robotics laboratory that offers youth and area visitors viewing access to state-of-the-art robotics work. IHMC currently offers two programs aimed at students. IHMC’s 2017 Robotics Summer Camp offers current middle school students the opportunity to work in teams and master LEGO robot challenges using the Lego Mindstorms Robots. Held one Saturday a month during the school year, Science Saturdays is a hands-on science program for kids in grades 3, 4, and 5. An IHMC researcher leads each session. Past activities have included lemon batteries, roller coasters, bridges, slime and secret codes.
