Airport Updates
UPDATES & MORE FROM THE GATEWAY TO THE GULF COAST
The past few weeks have been busy at Pensacola International Airport, and we expect that to continue going into the summer season. In this edition of the Check-In, we have a quick update on some projects at the airport and ways to make your travels a bit easier.
May is also Military Appreciation Month, so we are featuring our partners at the USO, who are often the first to welcome incoming members of the Armed Forces to the area.
Finally, there are several Memorial Day events happening along the Gulf Coast this weekend, so make your plans to attend and honor those who we remember on this important day.
We know you have choices when you fly, so thank you for choosing Pensacola!
The USO at PNS:
Connecting Our Troops to Home, Family, and Country
For many civilians, the USO is known as the sponsor of overseas entertainment for troops stationed abroad. From Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe to Steve Martin, Katy Perry, and dozens more, the USO brings music and laughter to our men and women serving overseas.
But for military men and women, the USO is much more.
In honor of Military Appreciation Month, we're featuring our partners at the USO and the work they do to keep our service members connected to home, family, and country.
Memorial Day Celebrations
This weekend we hope you will pause and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. The Gulf Coast has several area celebrations to commemorate Memorial Day. Here are a few options to consider.
The Pensacola Civic Band will be holding its 8th Annual Memorial Day Concert at the Hunter Amphitheater at Community Maritime Park on Monday, May 29th. This free concert features several patriotic selections to honor and remember our fallen heroes. Details can be found here.
Owa Parks & Resort has an entire slate of events this weekend, including movie screenings, fireworks, music, and more. There are events happening Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so check out the schedule here and make your plans to attend!
Santa Rosa County has Memorial Day events planned for both Milton and Navarre. These patriotic celebrations will include a presentation by local high school color guards, music, guest speakers, and wreath-laying ceremonies. Click here to learn more.
May-June Travel Update
As you know, we are entering one of the busiest times of the year for us at PNS, so here are a few things to remember so you can Fly Easy.
Last month, the Transportation Security Administration began replacing each of the four luggage screeners at the security checkpoint. That project is underway, but please know as these machines are being replaced, and TSA staff are being trained on the new equipment, you may experience longer lines and security screening delays. For more tips on getting through TSA screenings, check out the MyTSA app.
Please be patient, and plan to arrive 2 hours before your flight. In addition, while our long-range plans include expanded parking, if the surface lots or garage are full, we have parking available at the new lot next to the Hyatt Hotel, as well as the overflow parking area, both on 12th Avenue. Click here to see the latest parking options at PNS.
