Visit Pensacola announces stellar lineup of stars, including characters from international hits like “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” “Game of Thrones,” “Doctor Who,” and “The X-Files”
Pensacola, Fla. (December 12, 2016) — The sugar-white sand and turquoise water of this Gulf Coast vacation hotspot have long beckoned visitors from far, far away. This winter, however, Downtown Pensacola will roll out the welcome mat for travelers of a different sort — the intergalactic kind.
Pensacon 2017 — the Gulf Coast’s annual celebration of all things nerdy — will kick off Feb. 17 and run through Feb. 19. Headquartered at the Pensacola Bay Center and the Pensacola Grand Hotel, Pensacon brings with it a full roster of celebrity guests, fandom-themed parties and reveling cosplayers.
For three days in February — Wookiees, Daleks, Trekkies, Hogwarts students and superheroes become a common sight in historic Downtown Pensacola. Even the airport gets in the act, upgrading from merely International to the Pensacola Intergalactic Airport.
Founded in January 2013, Pensacon has quickly grown to become one of the biggest “con” events on the Gulf Coast. Last year’s event brought roughly 23,000 people to the Pensacola Bay Area. The event includes dozens of celeb guests from movie and TV stars to artists, writers, special effects experts, cosplay celebs and more.
“Pensacon continues to get better and better every year,” said Kat Bishop, Director of Marketing for Pensacon. “I am excited about all of the excellent actors and artists we continue to book for our 2017 lineup.”
Among the most anticipated guests this year: David Bradley from the “Harry Potter” film series and the HBO series “Game of Thrones”; Verne Troyer who played Mini-Me, the smaller imitation sidekick of Dr. Evil in “Austin Powers 2”; ABC’s “Designated Survivor” actress Virginia Madsen from films such as “Sideways,” “Joy,” and the horror flick “Candyman”; WWE professional wrestlers Ric Flair and Mick Foley; Jason David Frank, the original green Power Ranger; “Constantine” star Matt Ryan, whose character also recently appeared on the CW show “Arrow”, and actress Tara Reid from the “American Pie” and “Sharknado” films.
“In addition to our headliners, we are really excited to be hosting a cast reunion from ‘The X-Files’ this year,” said Bishop. “We will have five original cast members available for a panel discussion, question and answer session, autographs and professional photo ops.”
VIP passes for this year’s event are sold out, but regular weekend passes are still are available for $65. Single-day tickets start at $30, and will be available for purchase beginning January 1, 2017. Children 10 and under are admitted free.
