Pensacola, Fla. (Tuesday, May 21, 2019) – The Pensacola Bay Area is teeming with events, activities and more for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. Here’s a roundup of everything happening throughout the summer.
Fiesta of Five Flags Celebration
Since Spanish explorer Don Tristan de Luna first planted his flag on Pensacola’s shores in 1559, residents of the Gulf Coast community have lived under five flags: Spanish, French, British, Confederate, and United States of America. The Fiesta of Five Flags events, which happen throughout the year, all lead back to celebrating the founding and history as the first European settlement in the United States. A 10-day heritage celebration, held the first two weeks in June, is one of the oldest and largest heritage festivals in the State of Florida. It includes several downtown parades, a boat parade, a reenactment of Luna’s landing and other family events.
U.S. Navy Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Airshow and weekly practices
It’s one thing to witness the thrill of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, but to say you’re home to them, that takes on a whole new meaning. Catch the U.S. Navy Blue Angels practicing in Pensacola most Tuesdays and Wednesday aboard NAS Pensacola.
As for official shows, twice a year, the Blues enthrall local audiences with free, public air shows that include other military and civilian aeronautics teams. On July 14th, thousands of spectators are awed by the Pensacola Beach Air Show on Pensacola Beach where the Blue Angels perform aerial acrobatics over the Gulf of Mexico.
Watch fireworks over the bay from the historic downtown of America’s First Settlement. Or travel just a few miles and watch a dazzling display after spending the day on one of the world’s whitest beaches.
Whether you like a Fourth steeped in history or soaked in sunshine, Pensacola gives fantastic options for Independence Day celebrations.
Summer Music Series
A summer evening in Pensacola is a visit to paradise – warm breezes, water views and brilliant sunsets melting into moonlit waves under starry skies. What better way to enjoy them than with free music and friends? Every Tuesday enjoy Bands on the Beach at the Gulf side Pavilion on Pensacola Beach. The waterfront Community Maritime Park Hunter Amphitheater at Pensacola’s Community Maritime Park is home to Blues on the Bay throughout the summer. Concerts are held on Sunday nights when the Blue Wahoos baseball team is not playing a home game at the park. If you enjoy original music and hearing the stories behind the songs, Sandy Roots Songwriter Series is the music destination in Perdido Key.
The monthly event at The Point Restaurant showcases six songwriting artists each session: three locals and three regional or national touring songwriters with a Nashville hit songwriter featured quarterly. And let’s not forget about live music at almost every bar and restaurant in town on the weekend.
Outdoor Movie Series
Nothing says summer quite like a free outdoor movie. Digging your toes in the grass, with a drink in hand is the perfect night. Both Community Maritime Park and From the Ground Up Community Garden host free public movie nights.
Catch a Wahoo!
From catching fly balls in the outfield to hook, line and sinking them in the Gulf of Mexico, you’re sure to catch a good time in Pensacola this summer. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double AA Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins plays games along the bayfront all summer long. Additionally, Pensacola has its fair share of recreational fishing and tournaments like the Bill Hargreaves Fishing Rodeo, the Bud Light Fishing Rodeo and the Pensacola International Billfish Tournament.
Gulf Coast Summer Fest
