Aviation Discovery Park

Aviation Discovery Park is a park where visitors can observe unobstructed views of planes taking off and landing at Pensacola International Airport. The park features a mock runway and control tower, historical plaques representing prominent local aviators, play equipment, benches, picnic tables with shade, and sidewalks. A Donor Wall of Honor represents those who made contributions for the creation of the park. The park was the vision of a group of local aviators called Pensacola Area Flight Watch. The City of Pensacola and Pensacola International Airport agreed to locate the park on airport property so visitors can get a glimpse into general aviation and watch planes large and small arrive and depart from PNS. Interesting Fact: Although the Park is generally referred to as Aviation Discovery Park, it is also named for the late General Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr., a Pensacola native who became the first African American four-star general to serve in the U.S. military. You can learn more about the life and career of General “Chappie” James, Jr. by visiting the “Chappie” James Flight Academy and Museum at 1608 MLK Jr Blvd.
