Northwest Florida Beaches to Operate Florida Welcome Center (US 231)
Campbellton, Fla., July 1, 2019 – Northwest Florida Beaches is pleased to announce the continued operation of the US 231 Florida Welcome Center, which was slated to close at the end of June 2019 as a result of the recent VISIT FLORIDA budget cuts. VISIT FLORIDA leadership looked to the regional brand to assume operation of the center, which serves as the main welcome point for nearly 300,000 visitors arriving in the destination. Maintaining operations is a collaboration of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Northwest Florida Beaches, with support from Explore Northwest Florida, a regional brand comprised of nine counties ranging from Walton to Gadsden County.
Dana Young, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA said, “VISIT FLORIDA is delighted that the 231 Welcome Center will remain in operation. We would like to thank everyone involved in this effort, including the Northwest Florida Tourism Council, the Florida Department of Transportation, Jackson County and specifically Dan Rowe, who worked tirelessly to ensure that this Welcome Center stays open.”
“Operating the 231 Welcome Center is a wonderful opportunity for us to maximize the visitor experience and introduce them to our partners the moment they arrive,” said Jennifer Adams, Chairperson, Northwest Florida Tourism Council. “Moving forward, the site will be rebranded the Northwest Florida Beaches Welcome Center and we will be seeking strategic alliances that further elevate the arrival experience and provide valuable resources to visitors.”
The Northwest Florida Beaches Welcome Center is located three miles north of Campbellton and will
continue to serve as a one-stop resource for vacation planning including the guidance of four Certified Florida Information Specialists. The retention of staff has been made possible thanks to Jackson County Board of County Commissioners. In addition to serving as an informative resource, the welcome center also invites visitors to enjoy a break from the road at on-site covered picnic tables and outdoor spaces, and welcome them to discover adventures along Northwest Florida.
Northwest Florida Beaches formed in 2003 and is a 501(c)(6) comprised of the tourism councils of eight Gulf-front destinations: Pensacola, Navarre, Destin, South Walton, Panama City Beach, Gulf County, Franklin County and Wakulla County. The mission of the brand is to elevate the Northwest Florida Beaches to a premier vacation destination where adventure is always within reach.
