At Pensacola Beach, safety is our number one priority. You may notice colored flags flying at lifeguard stations and other beach entrances. This warning system is designed to alert the public about surf conditions.
- Green flag - Low Hazard: Generally calms surf and currents
- Yellow flag - Medium Hazard: Moderate surf and/or currents
- Red flag - High Hazard: High surf and/or dangerous currents; beach patrons encouraged to remain out of the water
- Double red flag - Water Closed: No swimming or wading
- Purple flag - Stinging Marine Life: Flown when jellyfish, Portuguese man o'war or other stinging marine life are present
Most importantly, know how to swim if you are going into the Gulf and always swim near a lifeguard.
On Pensacola Beach, Lifeguards will be stationed daily starting March 1 at Casino Beach, with patrols driving the island, as necessary. Lifeguard stations at Park East, Park West and Quietwater Beach will be manned depending on staffing availabilities.
On Perdido Key, Lifeguards will be stationed at Access #2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A lifeguard will travel to accesses 1, 3, and 4 to monitor the water.
Visitors can also expect lifeguards at Johnson Beach, Opal Beach, and Langdon Beach beginning May 16 through September 1.
Current flag colors and surf conditions are also accessible online here. In case of emergency, notify a lifeguard or call 911.
