Portside Pickle: Bunco on the Bay
Join us at Portside Pickle for Bunco on the Bay!
Bunco is a social dice game played with 12 players divided into 3 tables of 4.
This is a game of luck, not skill, so come have FUN with us!!
How to Play a Round
A standard game consists of 6 rounds. In each round, the target number corresponds to the round number (e.g., in Round 1, players want to roll 1s; in Round 2, they want 2s).
-
Starting: The Head Table rings the bell to signal the start of a round. All tables begin playing simultaneously.
-
Rolling: A player rolls all three dice.
-
If at least one die matches the current round number, the player scores points and rolls again.
-
If no dice match the round number, the player’s turn ends, and the dice pass clockwise to the left.
-
-
Ending the Round: Play continues rapidly until a team at the Head Table scores 21 or more points. The Head Table rings the bell to stop the game immediately across all tables.
Scoring System
Points accumulated on a roll contribute to a temporary team score on the table tally sheet. Players also record individual milestones on their personal scorecards.
-
Target Die: 1 point for each die matching the round number.
-
Mini Bunco (Baby Bunco): 5 points for rolling three-of-a-kind of any number except the current round number.
-
BUNCO!: 21 points for rolling three-of-a-kind of the current round number. The player must yell out "BUNCO!" to claim the points.
Moving Tables & Switching Partners
At the end of a round, the scorekeeper at each table determines which team won (highest score) and which team lost. If there is a tie, a one-die "roll-off" breaks it. Players then rotate to ensure everyone gets to socialize:
-
Head Table Winners: Stay at the Head Table, but one partner must move to an adjacent seat so they swap partnerships for the next round.
-
Head Table Losers: Move down to the Bottom Table.
-
Middle & Bottom Table Winners: Move up one table (toward the Head Table).
-
Middle & Bottom Table Losers: Stay at their current table, but one partner must switch seats so they get a new partner.
Winning the Game
After completing all six rounds, players tally the total number of Wins (W), Losses (L), and Buncos from their personal scorecards.
**We will give prizes for the Most Buncos and the Most Wins!**
