The Kamerman Piano Series: Albert Cano Smit
The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Kamerman Piano Series at UWF featuring guest performer Albert Cano Smit. The performance will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.
Praised as a pianist with poetic grace and established as an “artist to watch” (Montreal Gazette), Spanish/Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit has gained international recognition as an orchestral, recital and chamber music performer. Noted for his captivating performances, storytelling quality and nuanced musicality, Smit was the First Prize winner of the 2019 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions. He has appeared as a soloist with the Seattle Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, Montréal Symphony, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Orchestra of St Luke’s, Barcelona Symphony, Catalonia National Orchestra and Manchester Camerata. Serving as an advocate for new music, Smit has premiered various solo works on his recital programs, commissioned by Stephen Hough, Miquel Oliu and Katherine Balch. Leaving his home in Geneva at age 9, Smit joined the Escolania de Montserrat choir school, where his daily immersion in music greatly influenced him. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from the Colburn School and an artist diploma and master's degree from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Robert McDonald.
