As the summer travel season begins to wane, I think it’s important to take a moment to recognize and say thank you to all of those who have put in the hard work to create another successful season. After a slow start all thanks to sub-tropical storm Alberto, we’re seeing record numbers across the board for the area.

To speak to that, we’ve seen an increase of first-time visitors to the area by 11 percent and total passengers by a whopping 19 percent. Because of these results, Frontier Airlines announced that it will extend its Denver and Chicago service through February.

To add, after speaking with Captain George of Pensacola Bay Cruises, most of his passengers have been guests from Pensacola Beach and campers from Fort Pickens that are traveling to downtown Pensacola.
These travelers are creating an economic impact that otherwise wouldn’t have existed before the installation of the attraction.

These successes are a direct example of how tourism works for Pensacola. I’d like to remind all of you that we are still in the middle of a robust campaign educating the community on the values of our industry. This past month, members of our staff have been traveling the area speaking to different groups about the value of tourism. I’d like to encourage you to reach out to our team so that we can schedule a visit to your organization.

Finally, Visit Pensacola is beginning to look ahead to fiscal year 2019. I’d like to encourage you all to look at the openings on the board of directors and committees. These positions play a vital roll in our community and offer a wealth of resources to all of those involved. Should you have any questions, please email me directly.

Hospitably,

Steve Hayes, Visit Pensacola President

Marketing & Communications

The Canada Takeover and winter campaign that Visit Pensacola participated in with Visit Florida last year was submitted to the ESTO Mercury Awards. This campaign involved the collaboration of Visit FL, Visit Florida Partners (us), and Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

We are happy to say that this campaign is a finalist for an ESTO Mercury Award (under International Marketing), AND we also have the chance to win the Mercury People's Choice Award.

We can help win the People's Choice Award by taking a moment and simply clicking "vote now"

BONUS: Each person can vote once every 24 hours and can vote from both a phone and computer! Voting ends on August 7.

To add, this past month you many of you saw BlueAngelVote.com circulating the web. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow was nominated for USA Today 10Best Airshow and Visit Pensacola spearheaded the efforts to ensure a winning chance. Visit Pensacola focused on targeted social marketing that included a branded URL, boosted social postings and microtargeted audiences.  Winners will be announced on August 3, 2018.

Showcase Pensacola

In August and September, Visit Pensacola in partnership with Showcase Pensacola will run a “TV” campaign on a digital platform for those who have “cut the cord” and are not watching traditional TV, also known as Advanced TV. Unlike traditional TV, with Advanced TV we can target and track the media to the markets and individuals we are trying to reach. We look forward to the results of this new campaign. Advanced TV will run in:

  • Top Markets (Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Nashville)
  • Huntsville, AL
  • Montgomery, AL
  • Knoxville, TN
  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • Shreveport, LA

Additionally, recently completed and upcoming content development include shooting adventure shots in Perdido Key featuring couples kayaking, bird watching, nature trails, and more. We are also in pre-production for a culinary video series.

Upcoming Events and Conferences

Visit Pensacola will be attending the Florida Public Relations Association Annual Conference August 5-8. Over the past year, Director of Marketing and Communications Nicole Stacey has served as the Vice President of Annual Conference. Stacey has had the responsibility of completing the conference site visit, setting the conference schedule, reviewing and booking speakers, and developing promotional strategy. Visit Pensacola is excited to bring back valuable insights to put toward its marketing and communication efforts from this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Public Relations and Media Familiarization Groups

All public relation and marketing efforts have been logged and are up-to-date in the partner portal on the CRM. Additionally, cataloged efforts will now be a part of the quarterly partner progress reports. Partners can expect to see items such as in-kind donations for media familiarization tours and press mentions.

My Benefits Screenshot

In June, Visit Pensacola hosted the owner of Sip. Dine. Design, Lauren Farmer. Farmer specializes in travel blogging, graphic design, content curation and is the owner of her very own creative studio. While visiting the Pensacola Bay Area, she covered her travel extensively through social media and will be submitting a blog in the coming weeks. Thank you to all our partners who helped make her stay so enjoyable!

As we already begin to look to fall travel, Visit Pensacola will be hosting a variety of media throughout the festival season. If you would like your business to be included in any possible FAM itineraries, please let us know.
