Pensacoffee: Locally Loved Java

The only thing better than waking up to a gorgeous Pensacola sunrise is complementing that experience with a hot (or cold) cup of java. Whether you’re a black-brew purist or more of a triple-mocha-frappe-extra-whip kind of person, Pensacola has an array of coffee shops all over town that are fantastic for getting a little work done, laughing up a storm with friends, or just enjoying that delicious, intoxicating coffee aroma.

Bodacious Brew

Boasting ethically sourced coffee and teas from all over the world, Bodacious Brew serves up beautifully plated cappuccinos and espressos in the brewing method of your choice: Chemex, Pour Over, French Press or Syphon. The well-curated breakfast menu offers delights from Andouille Sausage Quiche to Gluten-Free Bagels. This light-filled building with high ceilings and exposed brick walls is located on the corner of Palafox and Main Streets. After enjoying a hot cup, step next door into the Bodacious Olive to sample dozens of flavored and infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars from across the globe.

Single Fin Cafe

What do surfing and skating have to in common with coffee? Stop in and find out for yourself. This cool, laidback cafe is just the place to chat with friends, enjoy a cup of organic coffee and grab a bite to eat. The cafe, located inside Waterboyz Surf and Skate Shop, is the ideal place to hang.

Constant Coffee & Tea

Constant Coffee & Tea is a little shop in the up-and-coming East Pensacola Heights neighborhood, just a few miles from downtown Pensacola. Locally owned and operated, CC&T gives patrons a variety of hot and cold drinks whipped up by friendly, hipster baristas. Try innovative mixes like Mocha with Cayenne Pepper and their Iced Green Tea Latte. Don’t forget to snap a pic, because every drink served here is Instagram-worthy. Exploring the neighborhood with Fido? Four-legged friends are welcome on the breezy outdoor patio.

The Drowsy Poet

The Drowsy Poet is a beloved shop with glowing reviews from all who venture a bit off the beaten path to enjoy it. True coffee connoisseurs, the people at the Drowsy Poet serve fresh-roasted beans from the some of the best coffee origins in the world, including Brazil, Ethiopia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala and beyond. Signature drinks are named for famous bards; the Byron is a chai latte made with organic tea and the Shakespeare includes espresso, steamed milk, chocolate, hazelnut and whipped cream. Even sweeter, this shop supports the military and worldwide mission opportunities through the sale of their coffee.

The Coffee Cup

Don’t expect artsy designs in your cappuccino foam here. In fact, don’t expect a cappuccino at all. This no-frills, down-home establishment has been perking up Pensacola since 1945, serving up Southern favorites like Biscuits and Tomato Gravy, Fried Chicken with Black-Eyed Peas, and Hot Cakes for breakfast and lunch. Get in line early to wait your turn for a coveted seat and watch the ladies behind the bar move with a purpose. Grab a seat by the window and stay for a while – refills are on the house.

Leisure Club

The aptly named Leisure Club has won awards including “Best Cup of Coffee” and “Best Coffee Shop” each year since opening in 2010. The modern yet comfortable environment is a great place to sample coffee roasted exclusively by Intelligentsia, plus fresh salads, grilled sandwiches and cheese plates. Hit your caffeine limit for the day? Stop by during happy hour for a glass of wine in a semi-private “cabana,” or to try one of their signature smoothies like the TLC: espresso, banana, single origin cocoa, local honey and milk. Check out their website or Twitter to see the current buzz; live music and other events are scheduled regularly.

Fosko Coffee Barre

One of the newest additions to Palafox Street, Fosko Coffee Barre has made a name for itself as a hip place for java junkies. Located next to Pure Barre Pensacola, it’s not unusual to see fitness aficionados sipping on a post-workout pick-me-up like an Iced Honey Latté or a Fit Frappe: a cold, low-cal drink with 1 gram of sugar and lots of protein. Not that sugar is ignored; the Cheesecake Bites are quite popular. Stop by all day for a delicious cold-brew coffee or an espresso from the dazzling copper machine. After hours, sip a beer, wine or tasty cocktail.
