Remember breakfast, that long-lost dining experience between dinner and brunch? Surely you can’t start every day with a crab cake drizzled with Hollandaise sauce.
I’d rather start my day with a steaming black cup of coffee, the smell of sizzling slab of bacon, eggs with the yolk oozing over those roasted potatoes. Yeah, forget the scattered, smothered and covered, let’s dig into some breakfast — Pensacola style.
The Doghouse is famous for their dogs but they serve up a pretty mean breakfast. It’s ideal fuel when you’re cruising the Palafox Market on a Saturday. I love the Chorizo Burrito, a spicy mix of eggs, cheddar and chili aioli along with its namesake chorizo. But the Classic Southern Plate is a chart-topper too —mainly due to the thick slathering of bacon.
Located at the corner of Palafox and Main, Bodacious pairs their coffee with a fine array of bagels, biscuits, breakfast wraps and more, but my favorites are the Breakfast Bowls —you can choose the meats, cheeses and veggie mixes. I love the Southwest Mix with some diced sausages. If it’s sandwich time, look no further than the Julia Childs. It’s a croissant packed with eggs, cheddar and the meat of your choice.
Great single-origin coffee sets the scene for this relaxed breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. I dig the Patatas Bravas — with ancho-braised pork shoulder to pair with your eggs, and fixings which include bell peppers and garlic aioli. A friend’s favorite is the Toad in the Hole — two fried eggs nestled into “the hole” of sourdough toast topped with avocado, arugula, candied bacon and more.
Tucked into the casual little Waterboyz surf shop, you dine for breakfast while the kiddos shred the indoor skate park. Come to the Single Fin for the vegan Fruit Bowls — but order The Barn Yard. Fried eggs top a plate smothered with crispy hash browns, scattered with bacon, mushrooms, spinach and a slathering of melted gouda. Yum.
Maker's is a coffee shop located right on Palafox Street. There are a variety of specialty coffee drinks along with baked goods and breakfast items. With a modern and trendy atmosphere, Maker's is sure to be a great way to enjoy breakfast.
Seville Quarter is a historic staple located in the heart of Downtown Pensacola. Their establishment is home to several different rooms where you can enjoy a variety of dining spaces as well as live music and events. Their breakfast menu is delicious, too. Seville Quarter is a unique and enjoyable way to have breakfast the Pensacola way.
An old-time breakfast stop near downtown is the The Coffee Cup. Opened in 1945, the traditional breakfast joint has bar, booth and table seating. My pick with my eggs is the corned beef hash. It’ll stick with you!
With it's local charm, Apple Market has been a go-to in East Pensacola since 1996. This gourmet grocery store offers a wide variety of food. Their breakfast options are also delicious!
The shiny diner has been serving up retro-style breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1999. Fresh-squeezed OJ and traditional breakfast fare. Order the Scenic Sunrise Special, you can’t go wrong.
It used to be a hidden secret, but now you gotta get up early for a spot at The Native. Great traditional breakfast and simple fare in a laid-back setting. Locals’ favorite!
Don’t you forget about Perdido Key. The Lost key has a locals’ fave for breakfast, brunch and chatter. Try the Chorizo Eggs Benedict with avocado, or better yet, the Blue Crab Omelette with a side of grits. They can also fry up a mean steak & egg plate.
