The Bushwacker: How it Became Pensacola’s Official Drink and Where to Get It
Great discoveries can change history. Take, for example, the Bushwacker. This booze-laced adult milkshake has blended itself up and down the coast to become…
Here’s a perfect pairing: the sugar-white sand with a wine glass in hand. Pensacola’s stunning beaches and historic charm doubles as a hidden gem for wine enthusiasts, and whether you’re a seasoned sommelier or a full-bodied happy hour’er, Pensacola’s wine scene offers a variety of opportunities to make pour decisions.
Pensacola and Pensacola Beach are partners in wine, and even across the bridge, the scenic views of the water are something to soak in. The Fish House is a Pensacola institution, known for its fantastic seafood, vibrant atmosphere, and its sip, sip, hoorays. For decades, The Fish House has been one of Pensacola’s favorite vintages. Or take in another stunning view of Pensacola Bay at Jaco’s. Situated on the picturesque Palafox Pier, Jaco’s offers a breathtaking backdrop for the perfect wine o’clock – the happiest hour. And no happy hour extends longer than The Wine Bar on Palafox, boasting specials daily from 11am-6pm. The name says it all, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll have you at merlot.
Whether arriving to or departing from PNS, my favorite stop by the airport is George Bistro + Bar, where modern cuisine meets Southern charm. Their engaging team (truly – everyone is ridiculously delightful) provides a luxe atmosphere that pairs perfectly with their punny, high-caliber cocktail and wine program. The brilliantly-curated menu makes a stout shift from lunch to dinner, while the libations continue to be a dash of fun. (Just don’t miss your flight, because wine flies when you’re having fun!)
What’s my favorite place to sip in Perdido Key? Ok fine, I’ll spill – but I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly. Don’t let the name fool you—The Jellyfish Bar is all about diving into great wines. Located a bit off the beaten path, this Perdido Key hidden treasure offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere with a diverse wine worth savoring. As a locally owned and operated favorite, The Jellyfish Bar will always pull some stings to help you sip like a local.
Pensacola offers an eclectic variety of bottle shops to find the perfect bottle for any occasion – even one to indulge from the comfort of wherever you’re residing. Both East Hill Bottle Shop and Downtown Bottle Shop have you covered – from those romantic beach picnics to spontaneous date nights… or a divine wine tasting where $10 gets you 10 tastings each Wednesday and Friday nights respectively. Trust me – you should have grape expectations!
Sip and savor your way through Four Winds Market, where the international wine selection is as diverse as it is divine. From rich reds to crisp whites, and a mouthwatering selection of Mediterranean-focused meats, cheeses and dips to compliment, let their expert staff guide you through a global tasting adventure to take home for any special occasion.
In Pensacola, the locals know that sip happens. And like us, you just have to ask yourself – wine not? From waterfront views to cozy hideaways, Pensacola’s wide wine scene is worth toasting to, and I hope you’ll uncork like a local the next time you visit Pensacola.
