The Poetics of Painting: A Celebration of the Lineage and Legacy of John Markowitz
We invite you to join us for a special opening reception on Friday, March 6, from 5-7 PM to celebrate the life and work of John Markowitz.
Markowitz was a dedicated artist who explored the traditional process of pigmented media on a two-dimensional surface. Many of his pieces utilize historical motifs of landscape and still life, but Markowitz's ultimate subject is the transformational potential of oil paint and the contemplation of time, perception, and memory. His paintings, drawings, and sketchbooks from the last five decades form the primary focus of this exhibition. Featured in adjoining galleries are more than fifty works of art created by Markowitz's mentors and students. This exhibition also includes additional paintings, drawings, photographs, and prints that he helped the museum acquire and steward for the community as Chair of the PMA's Collection Committee.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
