Performing Arts in Pensacola

The sound of the waves crashing onto the shore can captivate you, but so can the sights and sounds of the live artistic performances that take place in Pensacola every week. Feel the energy and excitement in the air as you listen to the symphony orchestra or watch professional dancers leap onto the stage for the first scene.

Pensacola proudly boasts a classic ballet company, symphony, opera, live theater and more. Acclaimed national and international visiting artists join in on performances throughout the year. And, the variety of plays, musicals, pint-sized singers, comedians, jam sessions and classical performances offer an entertaining artistic venue for just about anyone.

Masters of Music

From Beethoven to Bach to Madame Butterfly, Pensacola-based musicians produce amazing classical music pieces with a unique southern flare. In the early to late spring, be sure to catch the annual performances of Pensacola Opera, a big city opera with small town charm. Tickets are affordable, and the goosebumps you get from the high notes are free! Past operas include Carmen and La Boheme.

With a mission of reaching as many listeners as possible, The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra offers a multitude of concerts and events for families, children and the most sophisticated symphonic fans. Past performances have paid tribute to the movies as well as modern day musical movers and shakers. If you can’t attend a full concert, you can attend a dress rehearsal, and no dress code is really required for one of it’s most popular events: Beethoven and Blue Jeans.

The opera and symphony perform at the Saenger Theatre in Downtown Pensacola. A recent $15 million expansion and renovation makes it the Grand Dame of Palafox Street. The Theatre attracts Broadway musicals and well-known musical groups throughout the year. And, at Christmas and the beginning of summer, visitors come back year after year to see the famous Pensacola Children’s Chorus concerts. It’s a must-see for any live music fan to hear the angelic, yet powerful voices of children.

Music, Movement and Merriment Combined

The art of both dancing and acting are celebrated year-round at Ballet Pensacola, Pensacola Little Theatre, and the University of West Florida’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Professional dancers from around the world, along with Pensacola students, delight crowds with Ballet Pensacola’s classic performances like the Nutcracker and the hauntingly beautiful dance that details the story of Dracula.

The Pensacola Little Theatre is one of the oldest operating community theater companies in the Southeast, delighting audiences for decades with musicals, dramas, comedies and even original short plays written and produced by local actors and directors. The historic building downtown in which the theater sits is an attraction in itself. You’ll leave the musical performances with a swing in your step and renewed appreciation for the art of live performance.

With more than 75 musical performances per year, it’s easy to catch a concert at UWF’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts. The CFPA is the heart of artistic expression for the university and a primary destination for arts and culture in Northwest Florida.

And, as they say in the theatre, when it comes to the performing arts in the Pensacola Bay Area, “That’s a wrap!” We look forward to providing a host of entertainment during your visit to Pensacola.
