Mullet Toss
The renowned The Interstate Mullet Toss & Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party has evolved from a simple excuse to celebrate into one of the most significant…
Welcome to Perdido Key... aka the “Lost Island Worth Discovering”. With miles of shoreline and peaceful natural beauty, it’s the perfect destination to slow down, relax, and soak in a peaceful beach experience.
Before you arrive, we’ve put together an all-inclusive guide to tell you all the things you must know before visiting Pensacola Beach – parking information, beach safety essentials, public beach access points, and more - along with some of our favorite pro tips of course. Read on and learn how to make the most of your vacation time!
Perdido Key has several different Public Beach Accesses. Along Perdido Key Drive you’ll find four different access points, each complete with their own small parking lot.
The great news? Parking is free at the beach access points on Perdido Key! Of course, arriving earlier in the day can help you secure your parking spot during peak seasons.
One of the best things about Perdido Key is that we have the Gulf Islands National Seashore to enjoy! Johnson Beach is located within the seashore and it is filled with miles of preserved and pristine coastline waiting for you to explore. A little piece of history for you - Johnson Beach was named after Army Private Rosamond Johnson, as he was the first soldier from Escambia County to die in the Korean War. Here, you can see his legacy honored with a plaque at the main pavilion area, so take a moment to remember while you visit.
In addition to the main pavilion area (which is great for a little beach day picnic), you’ll find several other ways to enjoy the seashore at Johnson Beach. There is a kayak launch area on the other side, many boardwalks to enjoy, biking and walking areas toward the end of the road, and more. Keep in mind, there is an entrance fee for this but in my opinion, it is WELL worth it for your visit.
Now – safety always comes first. When venturing into the Gulf to go for a swim, it’s important that you are aware of your surroundings AT ALL TIMES! This means paying attention to our flag system and what they mean. Each day, there will be colored flags posted. You can check them out for the whole county on Pensacola Beach Lifeguards or text PBFLAGS to 888777 to get them sent straight to your phone.
Each flag has a certain meaning, ranging from green to double red. Read them below and familiarize yourself with them before you hit the waters! If you’re also wondering what to pack for your beach day on Perdido Key, we’ve got you covered. Read up on your beach safety tips before coming.
You might want to time your trip with a larger Signature Event that takes place on Perdido Key. I’m listing several good ones below that are always a big hit! Be sure to explore the dates for these if you’d like to plan your trip accordingly. An iconic one that I love is the Frank Brown Songwriters’ Festival. A lot of the live music takes place at the Flora-Bama and it’s such a fun event getting to hear everybody perform. The best part is, this one goes on for several days – so you’re sure to fit in some time during the festival. Check out more of the Perdido Key Signature Events below.
Now you’ve heard about all the amazing things Perdido Key has to offer, and you want to come check it out for yourself. It’s time to pick your place to stay! There are so many options on Perdido Key. Hotels, vacation rentals, campgrounds, and RV parks all await you here! My personal favorite thing I like to look for is a place to stay with those Gulf views.
